How to Kick Ass at Bodybuilding & Everything Else in Life

Hey everyone, Big Paul here. I want to share some thoughts on motivation and success. I've been getting many questions lately about how to achieve success, not just in bodybuilding but in life overall. So, let's dive into what it takes to kick ass in all your endeavors.
Patience and Persistence: The Cornerstones of Success
Some fundamental qualities are essential if you're aiming for success in bodybuilding, business, or any other field. One of the biggest challenges I see is the lack of patience and persistence. People often want immediate gratification and quick results. When they don't see success immediately, they give up and move on to something else.
You need to grind, stick with it, and push through obstacles to achieve greatness. Patience and perseverance are crucial. When I look back at my journey in bodybuilding and business, these qualities have been key to my success.
The Importance of the Long Game
Many younger individuals I coach tend to be impatient. They get frustrated when they don't see results quickly. On the other hand, older clients understand the value of sticking to a plan and being consistent. If you expect significant results in a short period, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.
Think about it this way: If you start a business and expect to be a millionaire within three months, you will be disappointed. The same goes for learning a new skill, like playing the guitar or building a social media presence. Success in these areas takes time, effort, and consistency.
Overcoming Adversity
One of the most critical aspects of success is learning how to overcome adversity. Over the past six years, I've faced numerous challenges, from surgeries and illnesses to financial ups and downs. But through it all, I kept grinding and moving forward.
Adapting and finding ways to work around obstacles is essential whenever you face them. Focus on what you can control, and don't waste energy on things you can't. This mindset will help you stay resilient and keep pushing forward.
The 90/10 Principle
A principle that has always resonated with me is the 90/10 principle. It suggests that 90% of what happens in life is within your control, while 10% is not. Instead of dwelling on the 10% you can't control, focus on the 90% you can. Most people do the opposite, which prevents them from achieving their full potential.
Consistency is Key
Success is not an overnight phenomenon. It's about showing up every day and putting in the work. In my journey, whether bodybuilding, business, or music, consistency has been the key to improvement and success.
A saying in Jiu-Jitsu captures this perfectly: "A black belt is just a white belt that kept coming to class." This applies to everything in life. Keep showing up and working hard, and you will inevitably improve.
Final Thoughts
If you want to be great at something, learn to grind, push through problems, and never give up. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't achieve your goals. Prove them wrong every time.
Remember, there will always be people trying to drag you down. Sometimes, it's even your own inner voice. Learn to control that voice and stay focused on your goals. Keep grinding, keep pushing, and you'll achieve greatness.
